Just be certain you have a 15W-50 fully synthetic oil. Recommended oil change interval is 7,500 km. Some owners change earlier, at Personally my oil change interval, even with synthetic, is around 1500 miles if I ride a lot of off road. KTM 690, 790, 990, 1190, 1290. KTM track racing The Owners Manual shows 15 hr oil change intervals. Some guys do just a drain (no filters/screens) at 15, then 500 EXC, RC8, KTM 690, 790, 990, 1190, 1290. KTMAsia, sir, "A typical OEM 15W40 running-in oil will lose 12.7% (part of the reason it needs changing after just 600 miles), while a pure fully-synthetic ester base oil will lose just 5%. A premium oil like Motorex’s Cross Power 10W50 will lose 5.1%."
So, interim oil changes & frequent inspections we can do ourselves but off to the dealer for 600 mile check & major intervals from there on. Btw, got my new bike Friday but only have 2 miles before my garage door broke & couldn't budge it until the repair guy came yesterday. So, car & new bike stuck inside the freaking house!
Oil change frequency for KTM Duke 390 usually depends on various factors including riding conditions, climate, and type of oil used. According to the manual, the KTM 390 Duke has a relatively short service interval of 4650 miles or 7500 km.
At 500 hours, the oil needs to be changed and there is a chance that the shock has been damaged. Under hard riding conditions, such as racing, oil should be changed every 10-20 hours. I might shoot for 50 hours on my dirtbikes/dual sports and I can definitely feel a difference in the suspension when it is done. #7.
From what I know KTM recommends 10w-60 if you live/drive regularly in ambient temps above 30 deg Celsius. It maintains lubrication at higher temps. 10w-50 provides poor lubrication at very high engine temps and wear out much faster. This is misleading and completely unsubstantiated advice. Bullshit! basically.

#1 · Apr 3, 2017 I've done a search and then read the three page oil thread, which left me with the same conclusion I had before reading it - which is as long as the oil meets the specs recommended then it's all good I couldn't find much on people's oil changing habits/frequency!?

Re the oil capacity, it is incorrect to state that the reason for short oil change intervals is because of capacity. 1.5 litres for a 500 is a larger capacity than 1.7 litres for a 690 which has exactly the same power to cc out ration yet has 6,000 mile oil changes.

Metal is different in newer bikes. I don't pretend to know when newer starts, however, my 82 Suzuki GS450 needs valve adjustments like clockwork every 4k miles. The bike will start running bad a couple hundred miles after 4k. I do the adjustments myself cuz the bike is stupid simple, and it runs like a top again.
