Yes, you can upgrade some of the guides. There are 3 chains, 2 time the 4 cams, and 1 times the other two with the crank. The 2 that time the cams are different, and cannot be replaced with rs4 parts, but the 1 that times the crank can be replaced with rs4 parts, and that’s the one that fails most often. 2.

I was wondering if people still stick to the recommended interval which is 55K miles/ 4 years or due to new materials used in timing belts, would be safe to Transmission filter: $39.53 (apparently these items are kms based) Washer: $2.55 (apparently these items are kms based) Washer: $5.70 (apparently these items are kms based) Seal: $16.94 (apparently these items are kms based) Labour: $108.90. From model years 2014 to 2023 all Subaru Foresters have timing chains. From model years 2011 to 2013 the naturally aspirated Foresters have timing chains while the turbo Foresters have timing belts. Prior to 2013 all Foresters have timing belts. All Forester engines are interference. The 4.2 found in b6/b7 s4's uses a timing chain that has to be replaced at 100k. The older b5 2.8tt motor uses belts that have to be done rought every 50-60k if i'm not mistaken. Both motors have to be pulled to replace these parts. Goes to show you the value of reducing oil change intervals, and doing an annual regardless of mileage driven, etc. Unfamiliar with the number of tensioners and chain slides/guides it takes to completely service the 3.0T motor in your car, but as you said, you did what you could with engine still in the car. Also, depending on your skill level, it really only takes 1-2 hours to R&R the timing cover. So if you have to replace the tensioner down the road it’s really not that big of a deal.
