A non-responsive Canon camera shutter button can be frustrating, but with the right knowledge and maintenance, many issues can be prevented or resolved. Regular cleaning and careful handling can go a long way in ensuring that your camera’s shutter button continues to work flawlessly, helping you capture the moments that matter most.
a) Clean the lens contacts* to restore connection with the body. b) Try using a different memory card. All memory cards should be properly formatted in your camera prior to use. *Warning - Do not clean lens contacts on either a Canon lens or the camera body with an eraser!
If this Troubleshooting Guide does not resolve the problem, contact your dealer or nearest Canon Service Center. Power-related problems. The battery does not charge. If the battery's remaining capacity () is 94% or higher, the battery will not be charged. Do not use any battery packs other than a genuine Canon Battery Pack LP-E17. With my 5Dmk4 bodies, if you are not 1/2 depressing the shutter button, there is no continuous autofocus. With the R cameras, even when the camera is hanging by my side I hear the focus motor continue to wildly engage, so the quick fix is just to turn the camera off.

Contact Canon US Support, 1-800-OK-CANON. It could be the way your camera is setup, but it could also be a hardware issue.

In the case of (1), unplug the charger’s power plug from the power outlet. Detach and reattach the battery to the charger. Wait a few minutes, then reconnect the power plug to the power outlet. If the problem persists, take the camera to the nearest Canon Service Center. I posted in a similar thread. My R5 with RF 24-105 froze displaying the last image. (Yet I have image review turned off.) Switching the camera off and back on did not restore function. Removing the battery briefly brought the camera back. The camera was in C1 mode which is set for animal eye detection and shutter priority, using servo. A USB connection won't work when Wi-Fi is active. Connect by USB and launch EOS Utility 3, then select REMOTE SHOOTING on the camera. On the window that comes up, not the camera menu, look for the LIVE VIEW SHOOT button. Follow the prompts on screen and you should soon see a preview of what the camera is seeing.
None of any other buttons (inc. info, i, delete, zoom in/out) worked. It didn't matter what lens was attached. I can shoot (shutter release worked) but cannot view/delete the photo newly taken. The live view button worked (see pic) but I could not use zoom in/out when manually focus. What I can guess is the WB button was stuck but not sure.
The same is done with AF-S, but it stopped AF once obtained. Extra behavior to note. With AF decoupled from the shutter button (for back button focusing) press the shutter half way and the camera will stop down for AE anyway. So rather than be able to just calculate and simulate the exposure it also stops down.
Press the MENU button. 9. Press the MENU button again to return to the shooting screen. Change or Format the Memory Card. When the memory card becomes full, the following screen will be displayed and the shutter will not be released. Please use a different memory card, or initialize the card. CAUTION.
Just registered to report my solution. I have a similar problem with the PowerShot S110 of my wife's sister. At some time a menu button and all joystick buttons stop working. The problem was because of sticking zoom control (yeah it's very stupid). At the normal state zoom control must return to c
If your lens is clean, the camera may not be focused when taking the picture. First of all, go into the camera settings and make sure it is set to AUTO. Then before taking the photo, press the capture button halfway down, until the image is clear. Once the camera focuses, the button can be pressed all the way down.
Click Start and type device manager. In the search results, click Device Manager. Find your camera under Cameras, Imaging devices, or Sound, video and game controllers. If the camera is not detected, click the Action menu on top and then select Scan for hardware changes. Wait for Windows to scan and reinstall updated drivers.
