The Grand Cherokee doesn't use the same battery as the Cherokee. I had a 2017 JGC Limited with the 3.6L and ESS. The OEM battery is a Lead Acid Battery, and the ESS battery is under the driver seat and its a motorcycle battery.
Buy a really good AGM battery charger and charge the battery really good right now. You need to make sure the brand new battery is fully charged from the beginning. Your Cherokee charging system will not do it. Then charge the battery at least weekly if you don't drive daily. Parasitic draw is a battery killer.
